A fan filtration unit (FFU) is a type of air filtration equipment. It is used to provide clean air to a clean room or microenvironment by filtering out harmful airborne particles from recirculated air. These units are installed in the ceiling or floor grid of the system. Large cleanrooms require a large number of FFUs, which in some cases may range from a few hundred to several thousand. Units typically contain their own pre-filters, HEPA filters and internal controlled fan air distribution.
FFUs can be used in place of more traditional recirculating air units, such as ducted or pressurized designs. FFUs are often used due to the height limitations of the space; they are the only system suitable for settings with small internal floor dimensions. Fan-driven HEPA, FFU designs are often considered less expensive than more traditional ducted supply systems.
