The filtration principle of an FFU primarily relies on its built-in filters, which are commonly HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) or ULPA (Ultra-Low Penetration Air) filters. The filtration process generally includes the following steps:

  1. Air Intake: The fan in the FFU draws in the surrounding air into the device. The fan creates a negative pressure area, pulling the air through the filter.

  2. Filter Action: The air passes through the built-in filter (such as a HEPA or ULPA filter). These filters are made of specialized fiber materials that effectively capture tiny particles and contaminants in the air. The working principles include:

    • Inertial Impaction: Particles in the air, due to inertia, cannot follow the airflow smoothly through the filter fibers and are captured on the filter.

    • Interceptive Capture: Larger particles are captured directly by coming into contact with the filter fibers.

    • Diffusion: For very small particles, the filter fibers capture these particles through a diffusion effect due to random motion.

  3. Air Discharge: The cleaned air is expelled through the FFU’s outlet, ensuring that the output air meets the required cleanliness standards. This clean air helps to maintain or enhance the air quality in the work area.

  4. Uniform Airflow: FFU designs ensure that clean air is evenly distributed throughout the work area to effectively control air quality in the entire space.
